iLands is a game for free for iPhone and iPad that’s available for iOS 4.3 or later. However, iLands Premium is available as an in-app purchase (US $3.99.) If you don’t want to drop $6.99 for Minecraft – Pocket Edition, then this is the game for you. You begin with a brand-new block world that you can build on and personalize according to your own personal preferences. Cats
The graphics are pretty decent in comparison to Minecraft – Pocket Edition, but they could be much better. The D-pad on the left side of the screen that allows for strafingand moving forward and backwards. Sometimes the D-pad can be a bit difficult to use. It takes some time to get used to, but it is doable for the majority of the time. The control on the right is for jumping up and has worked pretty well. When navigating the terrain it was a bit jerky when you were hopping over obstacles. Sometime the touch targets would not respond unless I tapped them a few times. It would take more than two taps to break dirt or grass or blocks with the X button. While I was creating and exploring my Solo world, the game crashed often.
A foundation of building materials is provided to you. These include sand, grass and bricks. The steel skeleton cubes are unique to iLands as I’ve not seen anything like them in Minecraft – Pocket Edition. The steel skeleton blocks are fantastic because you can build solid structures and enjoy a view and light unlike building with solid blocks. I enjoyed building with cobblestone for roads and houses. You can unlock the stones with locks when you purchase the full version. This review was done with the free version.
If you’re looking for a survival mode that is similar to Minecraft – Pocket Edition, you will not find it in the free version of iLands. I’m not sure if the survival mode is available in the premium version. I tend to play in creative mode all the time in Minecraft – Pocket Edition anyway, so I didn’t mind that in iLands.
If you love building blocks in a virtual environment, iLands is a worthwhile free download. I would be interested to know what the paid version lets you to do aside from unlocking building materials. I enjoyed building buildings and any other projects my imagination could conjure up.
ILands is a good alternative to for a sandbox game
